如何利用好下班回家后的时间(4:30 PM之后)1-15-2025

  昨天晚上本打算回家后,好好弄与Cassie的文章。但是3:40离开办公室,路上买了Gyro的大份餐后,回家马上吃。然后,没有洗澡就进行了晚课。时间是4:50左右。外面的天还没有黑,还是亮的。我脑袋有些累,身上没有。有些犹豫要不要回学校来完成coding,然后整理到manuscript中。结果,决定先躺沙发上歇一下脑子。拿出来手机看英超最新战况,后来看虎扑,小红书,手机B站。到了6PM。然后决定接着躺,到了7点。决定不去学校了,认为在家学也一样。索性就脱了衣服。正儿八经的躺沙发玩手机,到晚上8:48。起来洗澡。后下来,继续躺沙发,什么也不想干。特别累。一直到夜里11:05 PM,才上楼睡觉。 如果是从5:30 PM到了学校会议室,那么学3个小时,也能够晚上9点就回家了。4个小时就可以10点回家,然后就直接晚课,洗洗睡觉了。所以,决心在家好好学对于现在的我是很难做到的。是个伪命题。100%会躺沙发,耍手机浪费掉!所以, 只有晚上继续回学校学才能利用好时间,才是王道 !!! 目标是一周4/7天保证晚上回学校继续学,7天中有4天。 “ 干大事而惜身,见小利而忘命:非英雄也 。” -- 摘自《三国演义·第二十一回》(成就大事业时吝啬自己的身体,见到小的利益却不顾生命,这不是真正的英雄。)

我先向新院长Jim Sterling介绍了与Cassie合作的文章。 Cassie说认识这些人20多年了,现在也getting to know me.  bluntly frank about this. Susan Cochran向Cassie告状,电话 -- aggressive。Cassie向Jim Sterling告状,说我与IT有instances。后来,又说他老公也没有刷卡成功,去的planet fitness。Cassie当着Jim的面说,我各种不高兴,说:1)教学多,not true;我之后说这是真的。我教了6 不同的preps,比IST和business其他的faculty members都多。你可以查; I am very proud of what I have done. Helping department out. 2)students stalking me, not true;我说either Tricia or Leanna告诉我。3) I was unhappy with the enrollment.   On how to shorten a paper (or where do I begin cutting?). A few years ago, my favorite journal unexpectedly imposed page limits on submissions. Suddenly, authors were expected to tighten their work up & submit more parsimonious work. The request evoked panic. I wasn't ready to lose any precious words I had written. So, I submitted an over-the-length paper. It was promptly returned. I wanted to publish the paper, so what did I do? I slashed pages from the manuscript. First, I eliminated hanging words. Hanging words refers to the extra word or two in a sentence that extends into the line. It can be tricky slicing them, esp. if you are already a tight writer. I have cut as many as two pages from papers by doing so. Second, I revisited the method. Authors tend to overexplain their analysis - both how they did it and how to interpret the results. Usually, I go through and remove extra words. In doing so, I notice where my tone goes from explanatory to didactic. I delete the didact...

Tips for Protecting Your Research Time: Collaborate with colleagues and set group deadlines for completing work. Develop a daily writing habit. Exercise and keep reasonable work hours to boost creativity. Incorporate grant submission and conference presentation deadlines into your calendar to turn internally imposed deadlines into externally imposed ones. Be strategic about how you divide your time across research, teaching, service, and mentoring. Protect your research time by making your commitments public and visible. Create accountability mechanisms so that research-related tasks become as pressing as those related to service and teaching. Work from home to create clear boundaries between research time and other kinds of work. Cecil was doing office hours when I stopped by his office. I greeted him and started the chat.  Cecil's view on teaching He believed that the teaching load should be based on the number of enrollment rather than the number of courses . Cecil said that the BIT department at S&T has a particular situation.  He told me that teaching classes with 50-plus students are nothing compared to other places.
